Darren Ferguson set to be next Preston manager

30th December, 2009

It was announced today that manager of Preston FC Alan Irvine has been sacked. Irvine managed to push Preston up the table to 6th place, but after only one win in ten games the North End now sit at 16th and Sky Bet make them 8/1 to drop down into League One this season.

Preston are now in a very uncomfortable position as they fall closer to relegation and Irvine’s assistant Rob Kelly has been put in temporary charge ahead of Saturday’s game against Colchester.

Sky Bet are offering odds that Darren Ferguson will take over as the next Preston manager, priced at 4/1 favourite. Second favourite is first team coach Billy Bar who is priced at 8/1 with former Preston player Michael Appleton at third favourite.

A spokesman from Sky Bet explained, “No sooner had we seen the news of Irvine’s departure that the phone was ringing for a price on Darren Ferguson to take over at Deepdale.”

More odds include David Unsworth priced at 10/1 and former Middlesbrough manager backed at 10/1.
