Czech Republic v Portugal Match Preview

After both Czech Republic and Portugal won their opening games of the Euro 2008 group stages, a win for either side in the Group A crunch match will surely see that side through to the knockout stages.

Portugal will start the game as favourites after their 2-0 win in their opening match, in which they showed good nerve to hold off a competitive Turkey side. The Czech Republic on the other hand were less than convincing in their 1-0 win over the hosts Switzerland. An early penalty was enough for them to take all three points, but they will have to up their game to mount a challenge for the championship.

Czech Republic v Portugal Odds and Betting

In the W/D/W market, Bet365 make the Czech Republic 10/3 for the win which could represent some value. Portugal on the other hand are below evens, and with their reputation for wilting in the bigger games, this may not be the best bet. Both sides would probably settle for a draw, and with best odds of 12/5 (at Bet365), this will be taken up by a few punters.

Betting for one team to lead at half time and fail to win the match may yield some decent profits, with a view that a single goal before half time and an equaliser in the second half would not be a disaster for either team. Paddy Power make it 10/1 for the Czech Republic to do this, or 11/1 for Portugal.
