Christmas number 1 betting odds

16th December, 2009

Last weekend saw hot favourite Joe McElderry crowned the winner of X-Factor 2009, stealing rival Olly Murs dreams of winning.

When he was revealed as the winner on Sunday night, bookies went into a frenzy offering the latest odds on who was going to steal the number one hot spot this Christmas and at the start of the week Joe was the man to bet on.

A spokesman from Ladbrokes explained, “Joe is as close to a certainty as you are likely to find. Fans went crazy for him in the aftermath of Sunday night.”

It was confirmed on Monday that Ladbrokes had shut the Christmas betting market which saw red hot favourite Joe McElderry lead the betting with a price of 1/8 (from 2/9). Nick Weinberg, a betting expert from Ladbrokes explained, “Joe is the toast of fans up and down the country. For weeks now he’s look liked the only realistic winner and his justified his billing.”

Online bookies Ladbrokes were sure that the X-Factor winner was certain to win the top spot when they closed the betting last night, but yesterday decided to reopen its Christmas number one market. After the betting closed, punters flooded in looking to back Rage Against The Machine who are priced at 2/1.

Weinberg went on to explain, “Earlier this week it looked a done deal. Now Joe appears to be facing an almighty battle for top spot. This Christmas could be the first time in a long while that we see a genuine competition.”

Ladbrokes are offering other odds on this market including Joe McElderry’s mentor Cheryl Cole priced at 15/8 to having a winning act next year, making it the third in a row.
