Cheltenham Festival Day 2 Called Off

12th March, 2008

Officials have been forced to postpone Wednesday’s races at Cheltenham Festival due to high winds, which “could be dangerous”.

Winds up to 60mph raised fears of spectator safety after a structure blew down overnight. Cheltenham racecourse communications manager Andy Clifton said "We have made the decision to abandon racing for today. We have a weather forecast for today that is predicting extremely strong winds over the next six or seven hours with a high degree of certainty."

The forecast for the next two days is much calmer, and the postponed races are planned to be held over these two days, including the Champion Chase. There will now be 10 races on Thursday and 9 on Friday, the final day of the Cheltenham Festival. Bookmakers now expect to take about £500million on each of the final two days.

Our free Cheltenham Festival tips will remain the same, but simply carry over to their respective days.
