22nd October, 2008

With the Championship now over 2 months into the campaign boards of directors and club officials will be assessing the performance of their mangers. Some will be pleased with their teams start, others will be concerned.

The Championship is arguably the most competitive league in the world. At the beginning of the season any team could win the league. Many manager were expected to have their sides competing at the top of the table, however many will be under pressure after having poor starts to the season.

Football fans expectations have grown hugely in the last 10 years and now all supporters demand promotion, cup success of even European football. Money has created a false sense of expectation a managers are already under pressure from chairman's, boards and fans.

The sack race in the Championship has been priced up by Sky Bet and the favourites are as follows:

Alan Pardew at Charlton, was expected steer his team to the top of the table with his strong squad of players. They currently lie in 20th position and fans will be extremely disappointed with their start to the season, having also lost 1-0 to arch rivals Crystal Palace two weeks ago.

Iain Dowie was also going to find it tough at QPR. The club is the richest in the league and has brought in some big names, with the aim of promotion. However Dowie's side are in 9th place and Dowie's credentials are being questioned as a top flight manager.

Colin Calderwood's Nottingham forest side were promoted from league 1 last season, but have found the step up extremely difficult. Having only picked up 6 points this season his side are bottom of the league.
