Celtic Through to Last 16

5th December, 2007

Despite losing 1-0 to AC Milan last night, Celtic are through to the next round of the Champions League after the other match in the group went their way.

In what was a very low-tempo and generally poor match, both teams looked happy to play out a 0-0 draw, as it suited them both very nicely. However, when Filippo Inzaghi scored in the 70th minutes, Celtic nerves started to show as the result form the Shakhtar Donetsk v Benefica match became all-important. News that the Portuguese side had won sent the Scottish fans wild as they knew they had qualified despite the result in Italy.

Inzaghi’s goal meant that he surpassed Gerd Muller’s record of 62 goals in Uefa competitions, confirming his status as a major European player in recent times.

The half-full San Siro rarely saw any chances made, apart from Inzaghi’s early incredible headed miss from point-blank range. Scott Brown had Celtic’s two best chances of the game but failed to convert either.

Celtic have been priced at a wide range of odds, from 40/1 with Blue Square, up to an incredible 119/1 with Betfair. AC Milan, as reigning champions, are a more modest 10/1 with Bet 365.
