Carling Cup Round Up

27th September, 2007

Leicester City and Coventry City pulled off the shocks of the round in the Carling Cup, knocking Manchester United and Aston Villa out 2-0 and 1-0 respectively. Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson made 11 changes to the team which beat Chelsea at the weekend, however it still included the likes of Nani, Anderson, Carrick, Brown and other big names. Ferguson was left fuming, saying he expected much more despite playing such a different team. One goal 14 minutes from time was enough to see Championship side Leicester City through to the next round at Aston Villa's expense.

Elsewhere, Chelsea and Liverpool both found the net four times each, after both failing to score at the weekend. Chelsea beat Championship side Hull 4-0 in a fairly convincing performance that saw a debuts and first starts of the season for a number of players. Liverpool managed to overcome Reading 4-2, including a well taken hat trick for new £26m signing Fernando Torres.
