Capello wants his team to play with the “English spirit”

28th May, 2008

England boss Fabio Capello said ahead of England’s international friendly against USA that he wants his players to show confidence and “a very English type of spirit".

He is well aware that USA may be the fitter side, as the MLS season has just begun, whilst nine of the England squad played one of the biggest games of their careers in the Champions League final last week.

Capello commented: "(England) have to play quick, strong and press the opposition a lot if it is at all possible. I think the USA will be a strong game. I saw three games they played against Poland, Sweden and Mexico and they scored seven goals and conceded only two."

In our England v USA betting and odds preview yesterday we picked up in the fact that USA may be overpriced and attract a few punters, and with Capello expected to play a slightly different style with Rooney as the second striker, and ageing legs in the form of Beckham, the 8/1 price on offer is tempting.
