Bolton Manager Gary Megson has been sacked

30th December, 2009

It has just been confirmed that Bolton manager Gary Megson has been sacked from the club that currently sits at 18th position in the Premier League.

Their last game against Hull yesterday saw fans chanting for Megson to be sacked as the final whistle blew and this morning it has been revealed on the clubs website, “Gary Megson has been relieved of his duties as first-team manager of Bolton Wanderers Football Club with immediate effect. The decision has been taken in the light of the position the club finds itself in the Barclays Premier League at the halfway point of the season.”

The statement went on to confirm, “Assistant Manager Chris Evans and First Team Coach Steve Wigley will take charge of first-team matters for the interim period. The Club wishes to place on record its thanks to Gary Megson for his hard work and commitment to Bolton Wanderers during his tenure as manager.”

Online bookies Sky Bet has released betting odds for who will take over Megson’s managerial position at Bolton and have priced Mark Hughes at 7/2 favourite with Darren Ferguson at 9/2 second favourite followed by Alan Curbishley at 6/1 third favourite.

A spokesman from Sky Bet said, “Megson seemed to be doing a decent job under difficult circumstances but the fans had been against him for quite a while and when that’s the case it’s almost impossible to turn things around.”
