Bobby Zamora heads for the World Cup
8th December, 2009
With Fabio Capello’s decision drawing closer, footballers are determined to impress and punters get the chance to watch some outstanding games! A fine example of this is Fulham’s last game on Sunday which saw them win 1-0 against Sunderland, with Bobby Zamora scoring the only goal of the game.
The 28 year old has been under scrutiny over the past few weeks because of the lack of goals he has scored and it was beginning to look as though Bobby had been reading a few too many of the blogs and taking the remarks and comments too seriously which has had a direct affect on his performance. However, he didn’t hesitate to put fans in their place and turned round to gloat to the Fulham supporters that he had scored in the first 7 minutes of the game.
Boss Roy Hodgson has continued to blame fans for the pressure that they have been putting on the former Tottenham striker, with fellow players adding their thoughts explaining that he should be left to play without added pressure. Defender Hughes went on to say, “For a striker, it’s not just about his goals. His all-round play, his movement off the ball and his hold-up created space and chances for others. He’s a big, massive part of our squad. When he’s not in the squad we miss him, players come in and do other hobs but Bobby does it so well. He’s a vital part of our team.”
Hodgson has put Bobby Zamora forward as a possible England World Cup candidate after Bobby set the record straight with his winning goal on Sunday which sent Fulham back into the top half of the league. Zamora has been compared to England striker Emile Heskey on several occasions and it seems that if Fabio Capello is interested, Zamora is eligible and waiting!
With the chance that Bobby could be called upon, online bookies Bet 365 are offering odds of 25/1 that the striker will be given a seat on the plane to South Africa next year. However, it looks as though his limited amount of goals for club and country recently will not give him a place in the top goal scorer market which Wayne Rooney is currently heading and is priced at 9/4 with Bet 365 to be the top goal scorer for England.
