Big Four 'Still in it'

17th December, 2007

‘Grand Slam Sunday’ saw the big four play in action against each other, as Liverpool hosted Manchester United, and Chelsea travelling across London to play Arsenal.

The current top two, Arsenal and Manchester United, walked out with three points each, both completing hard-fought 1-0 wins. The games were fairly similar, in that they were cagey affairs where it was rare to see a decent number of players pushing forward. The goal in each game also came just before the stroke of halftime, both from corners.

A training ground move from a Manchester United corner gave Rooney space to shoot, before Tevez cheekily diverted the shot from two yards out. Arsenal’s goal was slightly more fortunate as the normally unflappable Petr Cech came to meet the cross from the corner, completely missing it and gifting ex-Chelsea defender Gallas an easy headed finish.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger commented after the game: "There is nothing decisive, but at the moment the most consistent are Manchester United and Arsenal."

The bookies have had their odds shaken up after the weekend’s action, with Manchester United now clear favourites at 10/11, Arsenal second at around 2/1, Chelsea third at 5/1, and Liverpool lagging at around 12/1. Current fourth-placed side Manchester City can be picked up for as high as 200/1 with VC Bet. Use our free odds comparison service to find the best odds for your Premier League betting.
