Betting odds on how long Roberto Mancini will last at Manchester City

21st December, 2009

It was announced this weekend that Mark Hughes has been sacked and although bookies predicted he would be the next to leave his post, the former Manchester City manager has revealed that he had no idea that his job was on the line.

Hughes was informed of his fate immediately after Manchester City beat Sunderland 4-3. Although it was thought that he was aware of the situation at hand, it was later highlighted in a statement that this wasn’t the case.

Hughes explained, “I was informed after yesterdays match against Sunderland that my contract was being terminated with immediate effect.” He went on to say, “notwithstanding media coverage to the contrary, I was given no forewarning with which my successor’s appointment was announced, it would appear that the club had made its decision some considerable time ago.”

Although Hughes expressed his regret for some decisions he had made, he also explained that he was on target with his plans that he had for the club and said that he would be sad not to guide the club through them.

As he left, he held his head high and with dignity said, “I would like to thank the fans for their support throughout my time at the club and I wish the club every success in the future.”

Roberto Mancini has taken Hughes position with his first match on Boxing Day against Stoke. It seems as though Mancini has to face a lot of angry people who believe that sacking Hughes after only 18 months was a very bad decision.

Bookies Sky Bet don’t believe that he will be able to perform positively under the pressure and are pricing him at 1/8 to last the season but 9/2 to get the boot before.
