Betting odds on Vieira as he moves to Manchester City

8th January, 2010

After a lot of speculation about Patrick Vieira’s future, it appears that the former Arsenal will make his debut performance for Manchester City against Blackburn on Monday night at Eastlands. The midfielder had a medical at the club yesterday and results showed that he was fit to proceed and with plans to have everything signed off as soon as possible, there are hopes that he will be ready to start on Monday!

Manager Roberto Mancini hopes that the new transfer will help City to move up the table to one of the top four spots from their current fifth place in the Premier League table. In addition, the Frenchman’s move is intended to help the midfielder secure a place in France’s World Cup team, despite having not played for his country since 2007.

Vieira explained, “It is important for me to go to Manchester City, to show the coach that I am the same as I was during the time when he was at Inter. I have goals and I can’t achieve them by staying at Inter where I am not part of the coach’s choice.”

Online bookies Sky Bet have opened a betting market on Vieira on how the former Arsenal captain will do at his new club. Vieira has been sent of 13 times throughout his career so far and Sky Bet are offering 9/4 that the midfielder sees red this season, with a price of 66/1 that he is sent off in two consecutive games.

A spokesman from Sky Bet explained, “Vieira’s signing is a statement of intent from Mancini that no team will out-muscle Manchester City for the rest of the season.”

The Inter manager congratulated the 33 year old explaining, “I’m sad that he is leaving but happy that he’s going to a place where he will play more.”
