Betting odds on Christmas TV soaps
16th December, 2009
As we all know, every Christmas is filled with exciting and dramatic TV and in particular soaps provide us with an evening packed with nail biting story lines! This Christmas looks set to be no different and Sky Bet is offering odds on which show they think will steal the attention on the day.
Online bookies Sky Bet have priced ‘EastEnders’ at 4/6 to be centre of attention this Christmas, despite having lost out in 2008 to ‘Wallace and Gromit’ and ‘Doctor Who’. ‘Doctor Who’ looks set to be at the top of the betting market this year and is priced at 7/4 second favourite to be crowned the most watched TV show this Christmas.
A spokesman from Sky Bet explained, “There have been a few upsets in recent years in the top Christmas Day TV show betting, with 25/1 ‘Wallace and Gromit’ pulling in most viewers last year and ‘The Vicar of Dibley’ coming out on top at 16/1 in 2006. ‘EastEnders’ looks hard to beat this year but perennial favourite ‘Doctor Who’ could just sneak it.”
Another surprising candidate is ‘The Royle Family’ which comes in at 11/2 third favourite followed closely by ‘Coronation Street’ that is backed at 10/1. Bookies believe that the long lost tradition of listening to the Queen’s speech is well and truly gone with the speech being priced at 150/1 to receive the most viewers on 25th December 2009.
