Andy Murray overcame doubts of his success yesterday after beating South African Kevin Anderson.
Murray has been drawn against some of the toughest opponents and there was great concern over his ability to overcome even the first match. Murray has proved everyone wrong and after thrashing the 6ft 8in South African 6-1, 6-1, 6-2, he has proved that he has what it takes to go all the way.
He will wait to find out the winner between Marc Gicquel and Simone Bolelli before he finds out who he will be playing next, as their game got suspending due to adverse weather conditions.
Murray explained, “It’s good to get the match out of the way. Obviously it’s good to get finished quickly. It is a good start. He’s a tough player. He’s beaten Djokovic before and won every tour event.”
The fifth seed continued to say, “He’s 6ft 8in so I wasn’t expecting it to be easy. I just got off to a good start which helped. I broke him straight away which always makes a big difference."
Whilst Murray is ecstatic with the result and is certain it is due to him flying out 10 days earlier than he has before, there is no time to lose concentration as the British No. 1 is set to meet the Spanish World No.2 Rafael Nadal in the quarter finals.
A spokesman from Sky Bet explained, “Murray looks to have a very testing draw as the number 5 seed and if he can come through and win the title then he will have certainly earned it.”
Online bookies Sky Bet are offering a price of 2/1 that Andy Murray is eliminated at the quarter finals with odds of 5/4 that Murray will beat Nadal and 6/5 to beat Roger Federer in the final. Bookies Bet 365 is offering 5/1 that Andy Murray will win the Australian Open 2010.
