Australian Open 2009: Men's odds: latest

27th January, 2009

What a difference a day makes! Federer is no longer the hot favourite win, can you guess who is? Let's take a look at the latest odds:

  • Nadal, R: 69/50 (canbet)

  • Federer, R: 2/1 (sportingbet)

  • Tsonga, JW: 10/1 (victor chandler)

  • Del Potro, JM: 28/1 (totesport)

  • Verdasco, F: 40/1 (totesport)

  • Roddick, A: 50/1 (totesport)

  • Simon, G: 50/1 (sportingbet)

Our thoughts:

  • Men's tennis is so competitve, the odds are certainly useful as a guideline but as we have seen, they are constantly changing.

  • Federer and Nadal seem to be favourites coming into most tournaments- both have incredible records when it comes to winning matches and titles, but it is important that we don't rule out the rest of the field.

  • Tsonga's chances of winning seem to have improved, and despite having a a lower back injury, he seems eager to win. Also, don't forget that he beat Nadal in the semi-finals in Australia last year before losing to Novak Djokovic in the finals.
