Arsenal v Liverpool Preview, Betting Odds and Tips
2nd April, 2008
Arsenal face Liverpool this evening in an all-Premier League quarter-final fixture in the Champions League. It will be the first of three meetings between the two sides in just seven days, with one Premier League fixture between the two Champions League legs.
The three games are likely to make or break both teams’ season, as both look for success in the Champions League whilst keeping their domestic challenge alive. As Arsenal look to recover from a series of poor results, helped by a dramatic 3-2 win at Bolton on the weekend, third place in the Premier League and quarter-finals of the European competition will not be good enough. Liverpool on the other hand are looking to cement their fourth-place position in the league, and push to challenge in Moscow.
Arsenal’s defence will have a tough time against Torres, who scored his 28th goal of the season on the weekend. And without the injured Sagna, that challenge becomes even harder. Arsene Wenger will have to hope Adebayor returns to form after a distinct lack of goal recently. Despite being an all-English tie, only two Englishmen are expected to start – Carragher and Gerrard.
Arsenal are distinct favourites, at 6/5 with most bookmakers. Liverpool seem decent value against a possibly out-of form Arsenal at up to 13/5 with Bet 365. The draw will also be popular at 2/1.
A bet on both teams to score at evens with Bet 365 seems good value, as no one can stop Torres at the moment, and Arsenal will look to take a good result to Anfield, well aware of their European pedigree. Also a 1-1 draw at over 5/1 seems good value, with either side getting a 2-1 win at 8/1 for the home side and 15/1 for the away side.
