888 set to tie up with Blue Square

31st October, 2007

The online betting group 888 is today set to announce an alliance with Rank’s Blue Square that will enable it to offer sports betting to the masses for the first time. The partnership is the latest step on 888’s road to recovery, after losing more than half of its business with last year’s closure of the US online gambling market.

The chief executive of 888, Gigi Levy, said that they would be taking a less aggressive approach to their new market, saying: "We're trying not to set expectations too high. We will grow the business market by market and focus on profitability.”

The news comes after 888 announced that it had made its highest monthly revenues in September since withdrawing from the US market, and expects a similar result in August. It has a 37% increase in third-quarter revenues to £25 millions, helped by the launch in new markets, including Italy and Latin America, along with a new advertising campaign in the UK.

Blue Square are currently offering a £25 free matched bet, with another £25 free bet availble after 10 bets.
