Horse Racing Tips
Gosden's Dream to come true
John Gosden has been dreaming of winning the Coral-Eclipse Stakes ever since Halling landed the first of his two victories in the famous Sandown race back in 1995.
Gosden had trained Halling to win the 1994 Cambridgeshire for Sheikh Mohammed but the horse ran under the Godolphin banner for his Eclipse victories.
Pipedreamer gave Gosden another success in the Cambridgeshire when landing a massive gamble in the big Newmarket handciap last October and his handler has been working his way towards this Saturday's Eclipse with the Cheveley Park Stud owned colt ever since. Gosden is a great target trainer and Pipedreamer will be tuned to the minute this weekend.
Punters can get off to a good start at Sandown on Saturday by supporting Hoh Mike in the Champagne Lanson Sprint Stakes. Michael Bell's four-year-old won on both his previous visits to the Esher venue and a simple reproduction of his latest Royal Ascot fifth should suffice.
Sugar Mint was working like a champion ahead of the Oaks but she failed to stay the 1m4f trip at Epsom and finished well down the field behind Look Here. Barry Hills drops his filly back to a mile for the Listed Agfa Healthcare Stakes at Sandown on Saturday and she can resume winning ways.
Henry Cecil's Ajaan is another who should benefit for reverting to a shorter trip in the Listed Weatherbys VAT Services Stakes on the same card. The four-year-old, who stays 2m and has a smart turn a foot, looked set to win the 2m5f Queen Alexandra Stakes at Royal Ascot last time until his stamina ran out in the closing stages.
Sir Michael Stoute's E Major can hit the right note in the finale at Sandown on Saturday. The colt has been staying on at end of all his three races and, very significantly, his wily trainer steps him up in distance for his handicap debut.
The Bet365 Old Newton Cup at Haydock on Saturday is as competitive as ever but we should get a good run for our money with King's Head. The five-year-old caught the eye when coming from miles behind to be fourth at Epsom last time. He's trained by the excellent Gary Moore in Brighton and wouldn't be making the long haul to Lancashire if a big run wasn't expected.
Moore is due to give his promising juvenile Art Preview his second start in the Listed aAirm Dragon Stakes at Sandown on Friday. This good looking colt, who had been working well ahead of his winning debut at Lingfield last month, should be ideally suited by the stiff track.
It’s all in the stars
The Leslie Winters-trained Royal Astronomer belied his 33-1 odds and created a very good impression when beating a big field of maidens over a mile at Leopardstown in May. The gelding steps up a couple furlongs on Sunday at Gowran Park but there is stamina in his pedigree and he's strongly fancied to remain unbeaten.
- Weekend Banker - Hoh Mike 2.10 Sandown Saturday
- Friday bet - Art Preview 2.50 Sandown
- Saturday Specials - Pipedreamer 3.20 Sandown. King's Head 3.35 Haydock. Sugar Mint 3.55 Sandown. Ajaan 4.30 Sandown. E Major 5.35 Sandown.
- Sunday Wager - Royal Astronomer 3.35 Gowran Park.

After the ‘pomp’ of Royal Ascot, comes the ‘down to earth’ weekend mix. It’s the time of year when flat form starts to find a solid level of consistency. Standby for a betting bonanza. This weekend Newcastle, Newmarket and Chester AND The Curragh are all on the free tips menu.
A standing dish for Friday Evening?
H Harrison is quite simply, a horse who loves Chester. Trainer Ian McKinnes’ gallops are a mirror image of the twists and turns of the Roodeye, and he’s down to a winning mark of 77. He’s won over C/D off 80 and, if he gets the prerequisite single figure draw, (the lower the better) he’s a must in the 8.50 ON Friday evening.
Suzy to bag the ‘Pitmen’s’
Suzy Smith is making a name for herself. Until her Royal Ascot win last week with Missoula, she was probably best known as trainer of the gallant, one eyed mare, Material World, second at last years Festival in the Pertempts Final. Missoula, named after a place in Montana, USA, won the Ascot Stakes last week in great style. She picks up a 5lb penalty for Saturdays Northumberland Plate, (3-20 Newcastle) and will have a rematch with Bukit Tinggi. But she has improved since, will love the drop in trip and whatever beats her will win.
Looks Very Promising for Sir Michael
Prince Khalid Abdullahs’ racing manager, Teddy Grimthorpe, was delighted with Promising Leads’ runaway victory at York. The Stoute trained filly, has come on again for that run. Do not miss the Bet of The Week in the Pretty Polly in Ireland.
Others to note, Worth a King’s has been catching the eye at Newmarket, this colt is related to National Anthem and Celtique, a three time July Course winner. He debuts in the 1.55 at Newmarket Saturday. Twenty minutes later, Every Second is due to run at Chester and Ed McMahons’ likeable colt is ‘fully expected’ at Chester.
- Weekend Banker - Promising Lead 3:45 The Curragh Sat 5/2
- Friday Bet - H Harrison 8:50 Chester
- Weekend Specials - Worth a King’s 1.55 Newmarket Sat, Every Second 2:15 Chester Sat, Army of Angels *3:05 Windsor OR 3:45 Newmarket Sat *Pref
- PITMEN’S SPECIAL - Missoula 3:20 Newcastle
- Sunday Wager - E Major 3:40 Windsor

Last week saw the very impressive Corrybrough travel like a winner throughout the Listed Scurry stakes at Sandown. It looks like Henry Candy has another very useful sprinter on his hands. This weekend’s free horse racing tips are for Royal Ascot, Newmarket and Pontefract.
Simcock ‘eyes a Royal winner’
Newmarket handler David Simcocks’ Bushman landed some tidy bets at Sandown on Brigadier Gerard evening and has been aimed at the Wolferton Handicap on Friday (4.20 Royal Ascot). The caveat is the ground. This likeable Godolphin cast off wants some rain and will not be risked unless it hits the Berkshire track. If it does, he’s still improving and will be well worth an interest.
Spanish Eyes smiling at Ascot
Sir Michael Stoute is looking to capture the Hardwicke Stakes on Saturday (for the third year in succession. Maraahel is the horse who provided those victories and potentially has a good chance of the hat-trick. However, Spanish Moon, looks a real prospect. Unexposed, this scopey colt came from another county to win here in May, he looks ready to make the step up into Group Company. His homework has been impressive, and he rates the best bet of the weekend.
July course for the over Forties
Michael Jarvis has a plenitude of talent at Kremlin Lodge, and in Befortyfour, he has a three year old looking to notch another victory, having hosed up at Leicester, where he completed a quick fire hat-trick. He is expected to take the 4-00 at Newmarket on Saturday, on route to frying bigger fish. He’s a strong traveller, who continues to send out all the right signals at home.
Godolphin looks East for a winner
Good card at Pontefract on Sunday and the 3-40 can fall to Eastern Anthem, who looks sure to step up on his second to Peppertree Lane at Goodwood. This track will suit and any rain would not be a problem, on the contrary, he would love it.
- Weekend Banker- Spanish Moon 3.05 Ascot Saturday
- Friday Bet- Bushman 4.20 Royal Ascot
- Saturday Specials - Befortyfour 4.00 Newmarket; Intrepid Jack E/W 4.25 Ascot; Kissing The Camera 2.30 Ascot
- Sunday Wager - Eastern Anthem 3.40 Pontefract

Last week was decent, with our weekend racing banker Conduit absolutely flying home at 11-8.
You have probably seen all the fuss about the last minute change of mind by Jim Bolger, the trainer of New Approach, to run his horse in the Derby.
Well anyone who read our racing tips for week-ending 10th/11th May wasn't surprised that New Approach ended up running at Epsom and will have backed the chestnut to win the Derby at 25-1 or possibly bigger odds, he went out to 209-1 at one point on the exchanges.
This weekend's free horse racing tips are for the meetings at York, Sandown, Doncaster and Cork on the 13th, 14th and 15th June 2008.
Go for All
The very shrewd Sir Mark Prescott has given the highly progressive filly Alleviate an entry in the Irish Leger which suggests she will take all the beating off a mark of 82 in 2m handicap at York on Friday.
John Dunlop does not keep many four-year-old maidens in training so the fact that he is persisting with Balnagore indicates the colt has a good degree of ability and is capable of winning races. The 1m2f handicap at Sandown on Friday looks a good event for that theory to be put top the test.
Ask and you will receive
Luca Cumani can gain some compensation for Curtain Call's disappointing Derby effort by saddling Ask The Butler to land the Queen Mother's Cup for Lady Amateur Riders at York on Saturday. Cumani has won the race for the last three years and Ask The Butler comes here on the back of an excellent win at Newmarket.
Doctor John Scargill's Deadly Silence is a massive horse with massive potential. He finished third to Derby runner-up Tartan Bearer on his debut at Leicester in April and last month waltzed home by 8l Southwell. The Daniel Prenn Handicap at York offers Deadly Silence another chance to climb the ladder.
Few three-year-old spinters have made the impression this season that Corrybrough has and Henry Candy's chestnut is the one to be on in the Listed Scurry Stakes at Sandown on Friday.
Baby Houseman looked a very nice prospect when overcoming her obvious inexperience to make a winning debut at Goodwood last month and John Dunlop's filly should make a bold bid to follow up in the 7f handicap at Sandown on Saturday.
Ship to master rivals
The 6f handicap at Doncaster on Sunday is a typically open sprint handicap but it could well be worth having an interest in Mastership, who should be a decent price The four-year-old caught the eye on his seasonal debut and first run the in form John Quinn yard over the same course and distance last month when a tenderly handled ninth to Tombi and the handicapper has dropped him a couple of pounds.
John Oxx's Katiyra was an excellent third in the Oaks at Epsom last week and the Currabeg trainer has another very promising middle distance three-year-old filly for the Aga Khan in the shape of Simawa who can put herself in the spotlight by landing the Group 3 Kerry Group Noblesse Stakes at Cork on Sunday.
Simawa needs to improve a good deal on what she has done in her three races to date but she is a half-sister to the mighty Sinndar. Oxx has brought her along in his trademark patient fashion and she should now be ready to live up to her breeding.
- Weekend Banker - Ask The Butler 2.15 York Saturday.
- Friday bets - Alleviate 3.25 York. Balnagore 4.25 Sandown
- Saturday Specials - Baby Houseman 2.30 Sandown. Corrybrough 3.40 Sandown. Deadly Silence 4.00 York.
- Sunday wagers - Mastership 3.25 Doncaster. Simawa 4.25 Cork.

This week's selection of horse racing tips, for the 6th, 7th and 8th June 2008. We have Derby tips and tips for Friday and Saturday's meeting at Epsom, plus a tip for Brighton on Sunday.
The right Approach?
Anyone who read these notes a month ago and followed the advice to begin a Derby portfolio by backing Frozen Fire at 40-1 (129-1 available on the exchanges then) and New Approach at 25-1 or bigger at the time for the premier Classic will be sitting very pretty now.
Frozen Fire has since finished an excellent second in the Dante Stakes and is now as short as 12-1 for the Derby.
We suggested a month ago that New Approach, who had been ruled out of the race by his trainer Jim Bolger, could still end up running in the Derby and he's a general 5-1 shot for Epsom glory now his participation has been confirmed.
Looking at the Derby market now, there could still be some value left with Bronze Cannon at 33-1. This colt has rather crept under the radar but a close examination of his form shows he has just as good a chance, if not a better, than Doctor Fremantle who's only 10-1.
Bronze Cannon is trained by John Gosden, who saddled the 1997 Derby hero Benny The Dip, and he has many virtues.
The progressive son of Lemon Drop Kid has a good turn of foot, he's a straight forward ride, he's neat and well balanced and should handle the track.
Johnny Murtagh has a truly superb record in the Derby and, while it will be a surprise if he is not aboard Frozen Fire, I understand that there is a possibility he could partner Lingfield Derby Trial second King Of Rome.
The best way around this conundrum is to support Murtagh's mount as soon as it is confirmed if it isn't Frozen Fire.
Derby portfolio
- Already advised: 1 point each-way Frozen Fire at 40-1 and 1 point win New Approach at 25-1.
- Add to portfolio: 1 point each-way Bronze Cannon and 1 point each-way J Murtagh's mount if not Frozen Fire.
Fly in for Wingman
The Northern Dancer Handicap that follows the Derby at Epsom on Saturday suffers from "After The Lord Mayor's Show" syndrome, but there could be a tasty bet lurking at the foot of the weights in it in the shape of Wingman.
Gary Moore's six-year-old progressed very well during the winter, landing the totepsort Trophy Hurdle at Newbury in February.
Wingman has been rated as high as 92 on the Flat in the past but can race off 76 here. He could be thrown in if carrying the improvement that he's shown over timber back to the level.
Sir Michael Stoute has a fine record in the 1m2f handicap that gets the Derby card underway and the Newmarket trainer's Conduit, who was a real eye-catcher on his comeback at Sandown, must not be missed.
Mark Johnston's, who's last 5 runners in the Woodcote Stakes have produced a third, a second and two winners, has entered Harwalla, Effort and Shaweel this year. The last named bolted up at Ayr in a smart time on his most recent start and will take plenty of catching if representing the Middleham trainer.
Nota Bene has had a tendency to burst blood vessels and he will have to hump a huge weight in the concluding 6f handicap at Epsom on Saturday. Hardly bet inspiring credentials but he posted a classy win at Great Leighs last week and if his brilliant trainer, David Elsworth, lets him take his chance, he will be the horse to back.
At his best, Nota Bene is more than capable of running this lot off their feet.
Ladies' day
Ladies Best looked to enjoy working on the track in the easy going last week with leading Derby hope Curtain Call and Luca Cumani's four-year-old should get his ground again in the 1m2f handicap at Epsom on Friday.
The Juddmonte Oaks looks one of the most competitive renewals of the fillies' Classic in recent years. The Irish send over a particularly strong raiding party with John Oxx's Katiyra getting the vote. Katiyra has shown abundant promise in her two races over 7f and a mile and she is bred to really come into her own over this 1m4f.
Barry Hills' hat-trick seeking Slugger O'Toole has a terrific attitude and will give us a good run for our money in the finale at Epsom on Oaks day.
Rev it up on Sunday
Reve de Soleil probably ran into a well above average performer when second to Chicago Cop at York last time and the youngster should make a bold bid to go one better in the opener at Brighton on Sunday.
- Weekend Banker - Conduit 1.40 Epsom Saturday.
- Friday bets - Ladies Best 2.45. Katiyra 4.05 Epsom. Slugger O'Toole 5.25 Epsom
- Saturday Specials - Shaweel 2.10 Epsom. Wingman 4.45 Epsom. Nota Bene 5.20 Epsom.
- Sunday wager - Reve de Soleil 2.30 Brighton.

This weekend's free horse racing tips for the 31st May and 1st June 2008. These horse racing tips are for the meetings at Doncaster, Lingfield and the big races at Goodwood.
Apostle is good news
Willie Haggas has his team in good form and the Newmarket trainer is fancied to saddle a couple of winners at Goodwood on Saturday.
Haggas placed King's Apostle to win five times last year and the colt showed he will be a force to reckon with again this season when a close fifth to Off The Record on his reappearance at Newmarket in a 25-runner 6f handicap at the start of May.
That airing will have brought the colt on and he will take plenty of beating in the Princess Drive Stakes Handicap that gets the Goodwood card underway.
Stable companion Mandelieu also made an encouraging comeback at Newmarket recently when a strong finishing fourth to Espy. The gelding would not need to improve much on that effort to collect the 5f handicap.
The Godolphin horses are now running well and Spring City looks another for the boys in blue in the 1m4f handicap. The chestnut was having only his third race when romping home clear at Windsor just under a year ago when last seen and he wouldn't still be with Sheikh Mohammed's team if modest handicaps like this were all he aspired to.
Cheverley Park Stud are sure to have Pattern race ambitions for Fondled at some stage this term, in the meantime, she can complete a handicap hat-trick in Goodwood's finale on Saturday. The filly came from way off the pace to win at Newmarket last time and a 5lb hike in the weights looks more than fair.
Gary Moore's Krisnando is another potentially well handicapped improving horse. She did very well to finish fourth last time after rearing and losing a lot of ground at the start and she can race off a 1lb lower mark in the 1m3f handicap for three-year-olds.
Sir Michael Stoute's Seasider was carrying plenty of condition when making his seasonal bow at York's recent Dante meeting. The colt showed up well for a long way there and he is sure to be much fitter for the 6f classified stakes at Doncaster on Saturday.
Classic Remark let us down when only fifth in the Lingfield Oaks Trial last time. The firm ground on the turf course that day was put forward as the reason for her lacklustre performance. Harry Dunlop's filly returns to the Surrey venue on Saturday evening for a 1m2f maiden on the Polytrack and there should be no need for any excuses this time.
- Weekend Banker - Spring City 3.35 Goodwood Saturday.
- Saturday Specials - King's Apostle 2.30 Goodwood. Seasider 3.40 Doncaster. Mandelieu 4.40 Goodwood. Krisnando 5.15 Goodwood. Fondled 5.50 Goodwood. Classic Remark 6.35 Lingfield.

This week we have free Irish 2000 Guineas tips, Irish 1000 Guineas tips, Newmarket tips, Haydock tips and Curragh tips for Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th May 2008.
Classic Art
The Boylesports Irish 2,000 and 1,000 Guineas at The Curragh are the highlights this weekend and both races promise to be crackers.
Saturday's 2,000 Guineas sees a rematch between Henrythenavigator and New Approach who fought out the finish of the Newmarket equivalent with the first named getting the verdict by a nose. The stiffer track should suit New Approach but Henrythenavigator's trainer, Aiden O'Brien, expects his horse to come on a lot for the Newmarket outing.
Stubbs Art, who was 4l away third, is well held on the book. Therefore, it seems very significant that his brilliant trainer, David Elsworth, has convinced the chestnut's owner, Matthew Green, to stump up £30,000 to supplement him into the race.
Stubbs Art is a very good looking colt with plenty of scope and at 20-1 he is decent each-way value. The Breeders' Cup winner NowNowNow is another fascinating runner in the Irish 2,000 Guineas. He put up a remarkable performance at Monmouth Park last Novermber when he swept past the entire field in the final furlong to win with his head in his chest. NowNowNow is worth an each-way bet as well, while a forecast with Stubbs Art to modest stakes has the potential to pay a bumper dividend
Irish 2000 Guineas portfolio:
- Stubbs Art 1 point each way
- NowNowNow 1 point each-way
- 0.5 points reverse forecast.
Total stakes 5 points
With Aiden O'Brien and Jim Bolger responsible for 10 of the 20 entries in Sunday's Irish 1,000 Guineas the field for the fillies' Classic is difficult to predict with any certainty at the time of writing but I would be very keen to back whichever of Aidan O'Brien's horses stable jockey Johnny Murtagh rides.
The Ballydoyle fillies have a habit of suddenly coming to themselves in the major races and Murtagh is the best big-race pilot around.
I also suggest backing Dermot Weld's tough and improving filly Caribbean Sunset who won the Derrinstown Stud 1,000 Guineas trial at Leopardstown.
Irish 1000 Guineas portfolio:
- Caribbean Sunset 1 point win
- Johnny Murtagh's mount 1 point win
- 0.5 points reverse forecast.
Total stakes 3 points
Aiden O'Brien's Duke Of Marmalade looked set for a good campaign when making a winning seasonal bow in a Group 1 contest at Longchamp last month and the handsome four-year-old can follow up in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at The Curragh on Sunday.
Bronze Cannon is entered in a 1m2f Listed race on Saturday and in a handicap over the same trip on Sunday at Newmarket. John Gosden's progressive colt is still in the Derby and if he is to make the Epsom line-up he must win his chosen engagement this weekend.
The much touted Corrybrough is likely to be all the rage for the Coral Sprint at Newmarket on Saturday and, as he is considered a Group horse in the making by his very experienced trainer, Henry Candy, he should win but he could start at a silly price and I suggest having a reverse forecast with Marvellous Value who has done nothing wrong in his three starts to date and receives a handy 12lb form Corrybrough.
The handicapper has taken no chances in allotting Stone Of Scone a mark of 90 for winning his maiden at Great Leighs. However, Ed Dunlop's well made colt looked a fine prospect at the Essex track and it is worth taking the chance that he will be competitive off his rating in either the 7f handicap at Haydock or the 1m handicap at Newmarket on Saturday.
The Betfred Bowl at Haydock on Saturday looks like being the hottest handicap so far this season and any number of the runners can be given serious chances but we should get a decent run for our each-way money with Fathsta who impressed when landing a good race at York last week over 7f and left the impression that he would be seen in an even better light over the extra furlong here.
- Weekend Banker - Duke Of Marmalade 3.00 The Curragh Sunday.
- Saturday Specials - Bronze Cannon 2.20 Newmarket. Corrybrough & Marvellous Value reverse forecast 3.20 Newmarket. Stone of Scone 4.10 Haydock or 4.35 Newmarket. Fathsta each-way 3.05 Haydock.
- Sunday Wager - Bronze Cannon 3.30 Newmarket.

Rock on
Another excellent weekend of racing is in store but keep a close eye on the weather as, if the present fine spell breaks, there could be some significant changes to the going.
Befortyfour and Royal Rock are a couple of rapidly improving sprinters who are expected to end up competing in Group races later this season.
Both have what may well be their last chances to race in handicap company at York on Friday. The Michael Jarvis-trained Befortyfour, who recorded a very fast time despite being heavily eased in the closing stages at Lingifeld last time, could run in the Axis Intermodal Handicap over the minimum trip of 5f.
Just over half an hour later Royal Rock is due to run in the furlong longer Sporting Index Handicap. The four-year-old, who has an alternative entry at Newbury on Saturday, has been brought along patiently by his astute trainer, Chris Wall. He's won four of his eight races and has plenty of scope to progress further.
The well bred King Of The Gypsies showed abundant promise when fourth in a Newmarket made on his debut in April and Roger Charlton's Sadler's Wells colt is strongly fancied to open his account in the 1m2f maiden at Newbury on Saturday.
Jane Chapple-Hyam's Judgethemoment created a good impression when winning a 1m2f maiden at Kempton on his seasonal bow last month. The way the three-year-old was staying on at the line then suggested he would be even better over longer and he gets the chance to confirm that opinion in the 1m4f handicap at Newmarket on Saturday.
Oceana Gold was just touched off in a competitive heat at the Guineas meeting. Surprisingly the handicapper has left his mark unchanged after that sterling effort and Andrew Balding's charge can take advantage of that generosity by going one better in the 1m handicap.
Ajaan is a tricky customer but he has plenty of ability and Henry Cecil's colt is worth backing to follow up his recent course win in the 1m6f handicap.
Mick Channon's In Transit shaped with a good deal of promise when making late headway to be fourth on his introduction at Yarmouth on Monday and the youngster should go close over an extra furlong in the maiden at Ripon on Sunday.
- Weekend Banker - King Of The Gypsies 1.35 Newbury Saturday.
- Friday bets - Befortyfour 3.45 York. Royal Rock 4.20 York
- Saturday Specials - Oceana Gold 2.25 Newmarket. Judgethemoment 3.00 Newmarket. Ajaan 3.35 Newmarket. Royal Rock 3.55 Newbury.
- Sunday wager - In Transit 2.40 Ripon.

This weekend's horse racing tips for the 10th and 11th May 2008. This weeks we have tips for the Ascot, Lingfield and Curragh meetings, along with a portfolio for the Epsom Derby.
Come on
Michael Jarvis is not the type of trainer to go in for hype so when he is complimentary about one of his charges it is time to sit up and take notice. The Newmarket handler has gone on record recently as saying that he thinks a good deal of We'll Come and he's also stated that the four-year-old "is blossoming". Time to pull on your betting boots and have a proper bet on We'll Come in the Victoria Cup at Ascot on Saturday.
Jamboretta did us a good turn when making a winning seasonal return at Sandown last month. She showed an excellent turn of foot to come from the back of the field to win that day and a 7lb rise in her handicap mark looks far from harsh. Sir Michael Stoute's four-year-old must be backed again in the 1m Bovis Homes Fillies Handicap at Ascot on Saturday.
David Elsworth's lightly raced gelding Silver Suitor looked as if the run would do him the world of good when finishing third in a warm heat on his comeback at Newmarket last week. This handsome grey is one to follow this season and he is well worth backing if turning out for the 2m handicap at Ascot.
The Totepool Swinton Handicap Hurdle at Haydock looks ultra competitive but Mamlook should give us a good run for our money. David Pipe's four-year-old is open to plenty of improvement and the way he easily disposed of some useful rivals at Ascot last time marked him down as a future big prize winner.
The Totesport Lingfield Oaks Trial could be quite well contested and Harry Dunlop's Classic Remark will need to improve a good deal on her debut fourth in a Newbury maiden last month. However, this very good looking dark bay filly showed immense promise that day and her half-sister, Cassydora, won the 2005 Lingfield Oaks Trial.
Curtain Call, the current 7-1 second favourite for the Derby, is due to test his Epsom credentials in the Lingfield Derby Trial. Luca Cumani's colt looked very good when cruising home by 6l from Drill Sergeant at Nottingham last month but that form was put into perspective when the runner up was beaten over 11l into fifth by Dr Faustus at Newmarket last Saturday. Dr Faustus, who would need to be supplemented to run in the Derby, gets 5lb from Curtain Call this weekend and he is fancied to give his connections a dilemma about paying to put him in the premier Classic.
When Musical Bar made an impressive winning debut at Newbury last month her trainer, Barry Hills, said the half sister to dual 1,000 Guineas heroine Finsceal Beo had the potential to win a very good race. With that endorsement in mind she has to be backed in the Group 3 Chartwell Fillies Stakes at Lingfield on Saturday.
Friendly Fire
The Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial at Leopardstown has been won by subsequent multiple Group 1 heroes Sindaar, Galileo, High Chaparral, Alamshar, Yeats and Dylan Thomas in the last 7 years. So, the winner of Sunday's renewal has big hooves to fill. Frozen Fire hails from the Aidan O'Brien yard that were responsible for all bar Alamshar from the list of great champions and the Montjeu colt has the potential to be the newest shooting star for Ballydoyle.
A good effort from Frozen Fire on Sunday will see his current Epsom Derby odds of 40-1 (and at time of writing 129-1 is available to small stakes on the exchanges) disappear in a heat-beat.
So, now is the time to start building up a Derby portfolio. I am by no means convinced that New Approach will not run at Epsom. Have 1pt to win on New Approach at the current odds of 25-1 or bigger as he will probably be less than 5-1 if he runs well in the Irish 2,000 Guineas and Sheikh Mohammed, who has a major share in him, wants him to go for the Derby. If Frozen Fire wins on Sunday he will shorten dramatically from the current odds and if Johnny Murtagh ends up riding him at Epsom he will start as one of the favourites.
Derby portfolio
- 1 point win New Approach
- 1 point each-way Frozen Fire
Top Horse Racing Tips
- Weekend Banker - We'll Come 2.20 Ascot Saturday.
- Saturday Specials - Jamboretta 1.45 Ascot. Silver Suitor 3.20 Ascot. Mamlook 2.00 Haydock. Classic Remark 2.40 Lingfield. Dr Faustus 3.10 Lingfield. Musical Bar 3,45 Lingfield.
- Sunday wager - Frozen Fire 3.55 Curragh.

Good Company
We have a fabulous weekend of racing coming up with the season's first British Classics, the Stan James 2,000 Guineas and 1,000 Guineas, at Newmarket on Saturday and Sunday and the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on Saturday night.
Last year's champion juvenile New Approach is a worthy favourite for the 2,000 on Saturday but Jim Bolger's chestnut is a real character and he will be led to the start by a pony - a normal practice in America but very rare in Europe. As long as he keeps his cool, New Approach will be hard to beat but he was only half a length in front of Fast Company in the Dewhurst Stakes last October and as Fast Company in five times the price of the Irish raider, there is no doubt which colt offers the best value.
Fast Company will not run if the ground dries out too much but rain is forecast to fall on the Rowley Mile this week and he should take his chance. Frankie Dettori will probably be aboard his stablemate Ibn Khaldun who is the official first string for Godolphin. However, there have recently been very interesting vibes about Fast Company, particularly regarding a gallop he was involved in out in Dubai two weeks ago when he was ridden by Ted Durcan, who is likely to be in the saddle again this weekend.
There have been some extremely bullish statements this week from the Fireside camp. Peter Chapple-Hyam's charge is reported to be working exceptional well and he's worth including in a 2,000 Guineas portfolio along with the Free Handicap winner Stimulation who's a very lazy colt that we have yet to see the best of.
Sunday's 1,000 Guineas is very exciting with the strongest field of fillies for a long time set for battle on the Rowley Mile. Infallible, Muthabara and Natagora were all impressive winners of their trials and justifiably head the betting. The last named has the strongest form and this grey French filly gets the vote. However, it could be wise to support Spacious as well. She looked an excellent prospect last year and it seems significant that she is going to make her seasonal debut here when the very shrewd Cheveley Park Stud also have Infallible in the race. Aiden O'Brien's unexposed Sadler's Wells filly Psalm is a lively outsider.
John Dunlop's Perks created a good impressive when romping home from some decent opposition on his reappearance at Doncaster and, even though he's been handed a 12lb higher mark by the handicapper, he is worth backing to win the opening mile handicap at Newmarket on Saturday.
Kandahar Run needed the race when just touched off by Campanologist at the Craven meeting and Henry Cecil's rangy grey can go one better in the 1m2f Listed stakes.
There will be over 100,000 racing fans in attendance for Saturday night's Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs and my American racing expert has told me to have an each-way bet on the Wood Memorial victor Tale of Ekati, who is available at 16-1 with the British bookies.
Get on Getaway
Andre Fabre's raiders rarely return home empty handed and the French trainer's Getaway should be backed in the Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket on Sunday. The five-year-old has to give weight away but anything approaching the form he showed when fourth in last season's Arc would be enough to prevail.
John Gosden has laid Michita out for the Pretty Polly Stakes. She will be much happier over this 1m2f trip than the 7f of the Fred Darling Stakes at Newbury last time when she was seventh to 1,000 Guineas hope Muthabara and it will take a smart filly to stop her giving the in-form local handler yet another success.
Dermot Weld's exciting filly Chinese White makes her seasonal bow in the Victor McCalmont Memorial Stakes at Gowran Park on Sunday. She looked exceptional when running away with her sole start last year and this could be the first step on a road the will ultimately lead to the Oaks at Epsom in early June

This weekend's selection of horse racing tips for the 26th and 27th April 2008. Including bet354 Gold Cup tips, Sandown tips, Haydock tips, Gowran tips and Brighton tips:
Last weekend's horse racing tips picked up two big winners to give us a £28 profit for the two days!
Super Star
Tony Martin has a tremendous record with his runners in Britain and the Irish trainer has laid Royal County Star out for the last big jumps race of the season the bet365 Gold Cup a Sandown on Saturday ever since the gelding finished second in the Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse in March.
Royal County Star heads the portfolio for the bet365 Gold Cup with Bewleys Berry and Knowhere, who both ran terrific races in the Grand National, the dangers and the ones to include in forecast and tricast combinations.
John Gosden has a fantastic record in the Sandown Classic Trial and his Derby prospect Centennial is likely to be all the rage for the Group 3 event. However, Gosden's Derby winner, Benny The Dip, was beaten in this race and, as Centennial is seen as a genuine Epsom hope, he is unlikely to be fully wound up. A better value bet, especially if there are enough runners and the odds are 5-1 or bigger, could be an each-way wager on Mark Johnston's Endless Luck. This colt only won a little Musselburgh maiden on the second of his two starts as a juvenile but he powered home 5l clear of the useful Tighnabruaich and a Dante entry indicates connections hold him in very high regard.
Alan King has had a fabulous season and the Banbury Castle trainer can end it in style with the tough Howle Hill in the Celebration Chase. The gelding was giving weight to the subsequent champion chaser Master Minded when an unlucky fourth in a handicap chase over the course and distance in January and that piece of form gives him every chance this Saturday.
It is almost certainly significant that the Cheveley Park Stud's Jamboretta remains in training with Sir Michael Stoute. The filly showed useful form last year and connections must believe she is capable of earning black type this season and she could make a winning seasonal debut in the finale to Sandown's Saturday card.
Yathreb has been entered in the Dante Stakes which suggests he has done well over the winter and, with the Dunlop team in decent form, the Kingmambo colt is worth a bet off a mark of 73 in the 1m2f110yds handicap for three-year-olds at Haydock on Saturday evening.
Befortyfour created a good impression when whizzing home at Lingifeld on his reappearance and it will be disappointing if Michael Jarvis' three-year-old does not make a bold bid to follow up in the sprint handicap at Sandown on Friday.
Fine Art
Neville Callghan always used to love having a winner at Brighton and his son, Simon, has a good chance to enjoy his first success at the helter-skelter seaside course with Expensive Art in the closing sprint handicap on Sunday. Expensive Art won well last time, handles a sharp track and is open to more improvement than her rivals.
Aiden O'Brien's horses have been backward this spring and they are likely improve a good deal for an outing. The Ballydoyle trainer's Port Of Spain will be all the better for his comeback at Naas last week and this lightly raced four-year-old, who has Group entries, is worth supporting in the 1m handicap at Gowran Park on Sunday.

Another selection of free horse racing tips, for the weekend of the 19th and 20th April 2008. Tips for Coral Scottish Grand National, Newbury, Ayr and Leopardstown.
Old pals act
The best of both worlds this Saturday with top class Flat racing at Newbury and the Coral Scottish Grand National and the Scottish Champion Hurdle for jumps fans to enjoy at Ayr.
Alan King is due to run Gold Cup fourth Halcon Generlardais in the Scottish Grand National and, with soft ground expected, the eight-year-old will be in his element and capable of going very well despite having to hump top weight. His presence will ensure that his stablemate Old Benny has a feather weight and this seven-year-old, who was having only his fourth start over fences when storming home in the 4m National Hunt Chase at Cheltenham last month, is the main bet. Have a saver on Halcon Genelardais and a reverse forecast on the King pair.
The Scottish Champion Hurdle is a handicap and Straw Bear looks to have a tough task conceding lumps of weight away all round. However, Nick Gifford's chestnut is a big strong individual and there's a good chance that he will enjoy giving weight to inferior rivals rather than meeting the best timber toppers at levels.
Take the tip if Gary Moore sends Shardakhan on the long haul from Brighton to Scotland for the Cenkos Securities Novices Handicap Chase. The gelding has gone from strength to strength this season, still looks fairly treated even though he has 11st12lb and he can notch his fourth win on the bounce.
At Newbury Clive Cox's ultra game filly Perfect Star, who has been out the first two just once in her eight starts, is well worth backing each-way in the Spring Cup.
Richard Hannon's progressive grey Malt Or Mash is strongly fancied to take the step up to Group 3 company in his stride in the John Porter Stakes.
Paco Boy, who was a winning banker for us last month, and the handsome three-year-old is another Hannon horse moving up significantly in class but if he can reproduce the impressive turn of foot he showed when winning at Lingfield last time he could surprise at decent odds.
Rule to rule
Dermot Weld continues in terrific form in Ireland and his tough grey cot Unwritten Rule, who overcame the odds-on Washington Irving, over the course and distance two weeks ago is far from fully exposed and he can add to his laurels in the Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown on Sunday.
Weld can also hit the target with Tian Shan in the Listed Heritage Stakes. The 40,000gns connections paid for the ex-French four-year-old at the Doncaster Sales looked money very well spent when he cruised home on his Irish debut in a conditions event earlier this month at Tipperary and with just four runs under his belt there should be plenty more to come.
Best bets
Coral Scottish Grand National portfolio:
- 2.5 points win Old Benny
- 1 point win Halcon Genelardais
0.5 points reverse forecast Old Benny, Halcon Genelardais
- Weekend Banker - Malt Or Mash 2.15 Newbury
- Saturday Specials - Straw Bear 3.40 Ayr. Shardakhan 5.20 Ayr. Perfect Star each-way 2.50 Newbury. Paco Boy 4.00 Newbury.

This weekend's horse racing tips for the meetings at Kempton, Doncaster, Brighton and Curragh on the 12th and 13th April 2008.
Amazing Grace
One Upon A Grace needs to improve to take the opening Listed Snowdrop Fillies Stakes at Kempton on Saturday but with just two very promising efforts in Ireland in her career to date there should be plenty more to come from Brian Meehan's four-year-old and her American pedigree suggests she will be very well suited by the Polytrack surface.
Mark Johnston's Robby Bobby showed abundant potential last year and the Selkirk colt has been given an entry in the Dante Stakes which suggest connections are expecting him to bloom this season. He is worth supporting in the Easter Stakes.
Peter Cundell is one of the shrewdest operators around and his useful mare McNairobi can gain compensation for an apparently unlucky eighth in a 7f handicap on the Sunbury track last month by lifting the 1m handicap.
Doncaster Rover can build on his promising debut second over the course and distance in the Brocklesby by landing the opener at Doncaster Saturday.
Kashimin has plenty to find on official figures in the 7f Bawtry Stakes but the colt showed an excellent turn of foot to win a maiden at Pontefract on his debut last October and his astute trainer, Alan Swinbank, is not one to over-face his charges.
Support Support
Eve Johnson Houghton's Support Fund has shown a real liking for the tricky Brighton track and the four-year-old can make a successful reappearance in 1m handicap.
Major Cadeaux goes well fresh and Richard Hannon's classy colt can make a winning seasonal bow in the Castlemartin & La Louviere Gladness Stakes at The Curragh.
Best bets
- Weekend Banker - McNairobi 4.30 Kempton Saturday.
- Saturday Specials - Once Upon A Grace 2.10 Kempton. Robby Bobby 3.20 Kempton. Doncaster Rover 2.30 Doncaster. Kashimin 4.45 Doncaster.
- Sunday wagers - Support Fund 3.10 Brighton. Major Cadeaux 3.45 Curragh.

This weekend's horse racing tips for the 4th 5th and 6th April 2008. Grand National Tips, and also tips for the whole meeting at Aintree.
Rich Pickings
The John Smith's Grand National is the biggest betting event there is and there will be a world-wide audience of over 600 million for the Aintree spectacular on Saturday.
The race has changed dramatically in recent years following modifications to the track and the lure of huge prize money is attracting a higher class of horse.
Tom Taaffe's Slim Pickings was an excellent third last year and the nine-year-old has enjoyed an ideal build up to this year's race. Granted the all important luck, he could easily go two places better and he is the chief selection.
Experience teaches that its usually a good idea to have more than one string to your bow in the National and the well handicapped pair Snowy Morning and Comply Or Die, who can boast form at the highest level, are well worth including in a National betting portfolio.
Given the possibility of a handsome payout, mix Slim Pickings, Comply Or Die and Snowy Morning in combination forecasts and tricasts (total 12 bets) for modest stakes.
Another way to get involved in the National is to bet on the number of finishers. The going is the main factor. The softer the ground, the fewer are likely to get round. The average number of finishers in the last ten years is 12.3.
If the official going description is good to soft back under 12. if the going is soft back under 10 and if it is heavy back 6 and under. If the going is good, bet on more than 12 finishers.
As the published going description can be very misleading, use the evidence of your own eyes and the earlier race times to determine the state of the going if there is any doubt at all about the accuracy of the official information.
The overall quality of the cards at Aintree rivals that at the Cheltenham Festival and finding winners will not be easy.
Roc on
Gary Moore believes his Mon Michel is capable of winning a decent prize and he could get us off to a good start on Saturday in the opening handicap hurdle. The five-year-old certainly deserves a change of luck having unseated at the first and then being badly interfered with at a vital stage on his last two starts.
Arkle winner Tidal Bay will be a warm order if turning out in the following Maghull Novices Chase but the ex-French Takeroc, who made such a good impression when making a winning British debut for Paul Nicholls at Sandown last month, gets the vote.
Al Eile is a standing dish at the Grand National meeting and the Irish raider can make it 4 wins from 5 starts at the fixture by landing a third Aintree Hurdle.
Paul Nicholls' Forest Pennant looked to be crying out for a proper test of stamina when a strong finishing fourth at Sandown last time and he should relish every yard of the 3m110yds Listed Handicap Hurdle.
The progressive Beggars Cap can take advantage of a potentially lenient mark in the novices handicap for Ferdy Murphy who won the race with subsequent Scottish National hero Joes Edge in 2005 and who has such a good record at the major meetings.
Have an each-way bet on Too Forward in the Topham Chase over the big fences at Aintree on Friday. The chestnut veteran retains plenty of ability and his trainer, Carl Llewellyn, knows what is needed having ridden two National winners.
Not so Dusty
Lucy Wadham is a very good trainer and she looks to have nice prospect on her hands in the recent Newbury third Dusty Springfield who can open her account in the mares bumper at Market Rasen on Sunday.
Best bets
Grand National portfolio
- Slim Pickings 2 points each-way
- Comply Or Die 1 point each-way
- Snowy Morning 1 point each-way
- Plus combine the above in forecast and tricast combinations at 0.25 points per bet.
Buy finishers on good going. Sell finishers on soft ground.
- Weekend Banker - Beggars Cap 5.00 Aintree Saturday.
- Friday fare - Too Forward 3.45 Aintree.
- Saturday Specials - Mon Michel 1.45 Aintree. Takeroc 2.15 Aintree. Al Eile 2.50 Aintree. Forest Pennant 3.25 Aintree. Sunday wager - Dusty Springheeled 5.20 Market Rasen.

Suits you sir
The Tom Tate-trained Suits Me was improving at the end of last season and signed off with victories in his last two races. The five-year-old reappeared at Doncaster last Saturday and finished a highly encouraging fourth in the handicap won by Granston. He returns to Town Moor this Saturday and, with the cobwebs blown away, he can resume winning ways in the 1m2f60yds handicap.
Regal Parade caught the eye when finishing fifth, after being locked away in a pocket for most of the race, in the Spring Mile last week and Dandy Nicholls' gelding will not need to improve much to take the 1m handicap at Doncaster on Saturday.
Peter Chapple-Hyam's 2,000 Guineas entry Brave Prospector has been flying up the gallops at Newmarket recently and it will take a well above average sort to stop him getting off the mark in the 7f maiden.
Kevin Ryan's filly Cha Cha Cha overcame traffic problems to pulverise her rivals at Musselbugh last Sunday and a penalty should not stop her following up in the 7f handicap.
Everything went wrong for Philatelist in the Winter Derby at last time out and his trainer, Michael Jarvis, was very frustrated. The colt can gain compensation by landing the Roseberry Handicap at Kempton on Saturday.
Breeders Cup Classic hero Curlin is deservedly a red hot favourite for the world's richest race the $6 million Dubai World Cup on Saturday.
The American horse can't be opposed and he has already proved himself over the Nad Al Sheba rack and trip by waltzing away with the Jaguar Trophy in February. However, we will not get rich by backing a 2-5 shot so, for an interest with the potential to pay a worthwhile return, I suggest an each-way bet on another American trained challenger Well Armed, who has improved out all recognition in the States recently and can be backed at 50-1, plus have a forecast Curling to win and Well Armed to be second.
The truth is out there
Paul Nicholls' Herecomethetruth looked a very nice prospect when winning on his hurdling debut at Plumpton in December. The 2m6f hurdle at Wincanton on Sunday will be more competitive than the Plumpton event but connections believe he has progressed enough to follow up.
Companero created an excellent impression when powering home 25l clear of his field at Carlisle last time on only his second outing under Rules and Howard Johnson's former smart point-to-pointer can go in again in the 3m handicap hurdle at Hexam.
Best bets
- Weekend Banker - Suits Me 4.45 Doncaster Saturday.
- Saturday Specials - Regal Parade 2.00 Doncaster. Brave Prospector 2.35 Doncaster. Cha Cha Cha 3.05 Doncaster. Philatelist 3.10 Kempton. Well Armed each-way Dubai World Cup and forecast Curlin to win Well Armed to be second.

Hall of fame
Saturday's William Hill Lincoln at Doncaster marks the start of the turf Flat season. The Andrew Balding-trained Yeaman's Hall is the tip for the first leg of the Spring Double which is completed by the Grand National at Aintree on the 5th of April. The Lincoln is fiercely competitive but Yeaman's Hall is an unexposed four-year-old with a touch of class and, granted a decent draw, he should give us a good run for our money.
*Nine each-way cross doubles combining Yeaman's Hall, Little White Lie and Prince Forever in the Lincoln with Slim Pickings, Simon and Comply Or Die in the Grand National is my Spring Double bet suggestion.
Mark Johnston has his team in good order and Lovelace should go well in the 6f Cammidge Trophy at Doncaster. The colt has been racing over 7f but he has bags of speed and the drop in trip should be in his favour. He had a recent outing on the All-Weather at Wolverhampton and will lack nothing in fitness.
The opener at Donny on Saturday, the Brocklesby Stakes, is the first two-year-old race on turf this year and, with no form to go on, caution is advised but Mr Melodious could be worth a wager. I am reliably informed that Barry Hills has some very nice juveniles this year and the veteran Lambourn trainer has an excellent record on Town Moor.
Surrey trainer Peter Winkworth is particularly adept at having his horses ready to go after a break and it could be worth siding with Sofia's Star on his seasonal bow in the 6f Play Roulette at Intercasino.co.uk Handicap at Kempton on Saturday. Its a competitive looking heat but Sofia's Star should be a decent price and he showed plenty of ability last year.
Richard Hannon's Paco Boy proved a profitable banker for us last Saturday when scoring at Lingfield and his stablemate Malt Or Mash is worth supporting in the 1m4f Listed Dragonfly Stakes on the same card. The grey was improving at a rate on knots at the end of last season and he showed he could handle this track when second here over an inadequate trip on his reappearance a year ago.
Alan King's Pagano has improved with experience and the game five-year-old is strongly fancied to defy top weight in the 2m4f fixed brush novice hurdle at Haydock on Saturday.
Captain Oscar looked a fine prospect when chasing home the highly regarded Mad Max on his debut at Newbury and it will take a very useful sort to lower Ben De Haan's gelding's colours in the bumper at Haydock.
Bet Big
As usual the best racing on Sunday is in Ireland and I am keen on the chances of Big Zeb in the 2m4f Powers Gold Cup at Fairyhouse. Colm Murphy's novice needs to have improve his fencing technique but if he puts in a clear round he will take all the beating.
Best bets
- Weekend Banker - Pagano 3.00 Haydock Saturday.
- Saturday Specials - Mr Melodious 2.15 Lingfield. Lovelace 3.25 Doncaster. Yeaman's Hall 4.00 Doncaster. Sofia's Star 3.50 Kempton. Malt Or Mash 4.25 Kempton. Captain Oscar 5.50 Haydock.
- Sunday Wager - Big Zeb 3.50 Fairyhouse.
Spring Double
Nine each-way cross doubles on Yeaman's Hall, Little White Lie and Prince Forever in the Lincoln with Slim Pickings, Simon and Comply Or Die in the Grand National

This weekend's horse racing tips for Lingfield, Newcastle, Fontwell and Wetherby on the 15th and 16th March.
Silver shine
Gerald Butler's Silver Pivotal was very impressive last time and the lightly raced and improving filly can land the Winter Derby at Lingfield on Saturday.
Paco Boy won twice asa juvenile but always looked likley to do better as a three-year-old and Richard Hannon's colt can make a winning reappearance in the betdirect Spring Cup.
The Handicapper has been kind to Lambrini Magic and Mick Easterby's charge can win at either Wetherby or Newcastle on Saturday.
Honest John can go one better than his promising debut second in the bumper at Wetherby.
David Pipe has his team in top form and the promising Time Bandit should be backed in at Fontwell on Sunday.
Peter Bowen is a master at improving his horses and Gunnabelil is a decent each-way bet on the same card.
Best bets
- Weekend Banker - Paco Boy 2.40 Lingfield Saturday.
- Saturday Specials - Silver Pivotal 3.15 Lingfield. Lambrini Magic Wetherby or Newcastle. Honest John 5.50 Wetherby.
- Sunday Wagers - Time Badit 4.00 Fontwell. Gunnabelil 5.30 Fontwell.

This week’s free horse racing tips for the weekend of the 8th and 9th of March 2008:
Red hot Ash
Legendary trainer Martin Pipe always used to set his stall out to win the Sunderlands Imperial Cup at Sandown as the winner picks up a massive bonus if following up in any race at the Cheltenham Festival. Martin landed the bonus twice during his long career. His son David emulated him last year with Gaspara in his first season in charge at Pond House. David is intent on collecting the bonus again and has entered seven for this Saturday's Imperial Cup. The best of them could be the juvenile Ashkazar who has looked a classy recruit in winning two of his three starts over hurdles and the form is working out very well.
Nicky Henderson's well related Ravello Bay looked a very exciting prospect when cruising to a debut victory at Fakenham last month and the five-year-old is strongly fancied to follow up in the mares only bumper at Sandown on Saturday
Ravello Bay's stablemate Duc de Regniere was beaten 28l by his sole rival Starzaan at Wincanton last time but I am still go to put him up for the 3m110yds handicap chase. His conqueror is very smart on his day and Duc de Reginere's earlier form suggests the less talented rivals he meets here will find him a tough nut to crack even though he has top weight. Duc de Reginere is also entered at Hereford on Sunday.
I took a real shine to Beshabar when he finished a very promising second on his debut at Newbury in December. Nick Williams' rangy gelding duly won next time out at Exeter. He was only fifth back at Exeter last time but I am convinced he is better than that and, especially as he is likely to be an attractive price, I am keen to support him each-way in the novices handicap hurdle that opens the Sandown card.
Tom George's horses are jumping out of their skins at present and the Slad trainer is due to introduce the interesting Bold Punt this weekend in either the 3m maiden hurdle at Chepstow on Saturday or a similar contest at Warwick on Sunday. The chestnut, who hails from the family of the top class chaser Jodami, has already won a point-to-point and, with his stable in such good form, he worth an each-way punt at likely decent odds.
Clarified a clear choice
Tony Martin could finally take the wraps of Clarified in the Irish Racing Writers Novices Hurdle at Naas on Sunday. We have been waiting for the gelding to reappear ever since he created an excellent impression when winning a maiden hurdle at Punchestown in mid January. Martin's horses are back in good form after a quiet spell and Clarified should not be missed.
Coq Hardi waltzed home by 18l in a 2m4f handicap hurdles at Bangor last weekend despite being eased down in the closing stages. A penalty is unlikely to stop the Peter Bowen-trained seven-year-old following up in the 3m handicap hurdle at Market Rasen this Sunday, as long as he stays extra half a mile.
Best Bets:
- Weekend Banker - Ravello Bay 3.50 Sandown Saturday.
- Saturday Specials - Ashkazar 2.15 Sandown. Duc de Regniere 2.40 Sandown. Ravello Bay 3.50 Sandown. Bold Punt 2.30 Chepstow. Beshabar each-way 2.05 Sandown
- Sunday Wagers - Duc de Regniere 3.25 Hereford. Cog Hardi 4.15 Market Rasen. Bold Punt 3.35 Warwick. Clarified 3.10 Naas.
